Social Studies - CIVICS
In accordance with Florida law, middle school students are required to earn a credit in Civics to be eligible for promotion to high school. The law requires students to take a state End of Course exam which must comprise 30% of the final grade. All Lee County 7th graders are working with their teachers to complete the course requirements including preparation for the exam.
Students explore art from around the world through project-based activities. They compare various cultural responses in the art to universal themes, gaining respect for diverse perspectives and the rich heritage shared by cultures from around the world. They have the opportunity to create two-dimensional works, which may include drawing, painting, printmaking, and/or collage. Student artists reflect on their own artwork and that of others through critical analysis to achieve artistic goals related to craftsmanship, technique, and application of 21st-century skills.
In advanced art classes, students further their artistic skills through various forms of media. Students work to improve their creative techniques through critical analysis and artistic discipline.
The band introduces students to musical instruments. Students learn about the different families of instruments and select one to play. The concert band is open to students who have already completed a year of band. Students continue their studies, becoming more proficient on their instruments and learning more challenging music. Concert band students perform in two major concerts each year, plus additional field trips to play other venues.

It allows students to further explore different styles of musical expression, and continue to work on correct vocal technique and performance.
