H
arns Marsh Middle School is a uniform school. Many professionals wear uniforms in the workplace. Students in schools with an adopted uniform policy exhibit a more serious approach to school. The HMMS uniform code supports and enhances a positive environment where learning is a priority. 

TOPS: (MALE AND FEMALE)
short or long-sleeved polo shirts with 2 or 3 buttons - SOLID in any color – one small logo permitted
SOLID color undershirts (long or short sleeved) may be worn under the polo shirt
Shirts will be tucked in at all times
HMMS Spirit/Club shirts may be worn on Fridays 

BOTTOMS: (MALE AND FEMALE)
Navy or khaki/tan uniform long pants, shorts, skirts, and capris - worn at the waist and the correct size - long pants should not be tucked in shoes/socks or gathered in any way - length of skirts/shorts must be at or below the knee in standing position
Belt must be plain, solid color, and unadorned - buckles should not be oversized or display names, logos, or emblems
NOT PERMITTED - Jeans (denim of any color), cargo shorts/pants, JOGGERS, carpenter pants, low rise bottoms, hip huggers, clothing that drags on the ground, oversized or tight clothing, torn or frayed clothing, ornamental stitching, stretch fabric

SHOES: (MALE AND FEMALE)
Closed toe and closed heel shoes
Shoes must be worn at all times and secured properly

HAIR: (MALE AND FEMALE)
Hair coloring or hairstyles that are considered to be distracting are prohibited - hair must be natural colors
Hats or sunglasses may be worn for sun protection during outdoor activities
Make up should be natural, no distracting colors

JEWELRY: (MALE AND FEMALE)
Jewelry that could be a safety concern is not allowed - examples of items - oversized jewelry, chokers, dog collars, spikes 
Piercings – ear piercings only

OUTERWEAR: (MALE AND FEMALE)
SOLID BLACK ONLY - no prints or logos – sweatshirts and jackets must fully open in the front (zipper, button)
Jackets/sweaters when allowed to be worn in school must be worn completely unzipped or unbuttoned – they may have attached hoods but students are not permitted to wear the hoods while on campus

SPECIFIC UNIFORM CODE EXPECTATIONS:
Any item or apparel that promotes the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or any other illegal activity is prohibited 
No visible tattoos, no pen ink to simulate tattoos, or fake/temporary tattoos
Students must be in uniform compliance at all times while on campus
Gym clothes may be worn only during P.E. class and during authorized athletic events

Any questions about the suitability or appropriateness of dress code will be decided by the administration.
