Cambridge Lower Secondary develops skills and understanding in English, mathematics, science and Cambridge Global Perspectives for the first three years of secondary education. It combines a world-class curriculum, high-quality support for teachers and integrated assessment. These assessments provide an international benchmark of student achievement.

Students explore art from around the world through project-based activities.  They compare various cultural responses in art to universal themes, gaining respect for diverse perspectives and the rich heritage shared by cultures from around the world.  They have the opportunity to create two-dimensional works, which may include drawing, painting, printmaking, and/or collage.  Student artists reflect on their own artwork and that of others through critical analysis to achieve artistic goals related to craftsmanship, technique, and application of 21st-century skills. 

In the advanced art classes, students further their artistic skills through various forms of media.  Students work to improve their creative techniques through critical analysis and artistic discipline.

Band introduces students to musical instruments.  Students learn about the different families of instruments and  select one to play.  They learn fundamentals of music notation, how to play their instrument, and how to play as a group.  Talents are showcased in two concerts.  Concert band is open to students who have already completed a year of band.  Students continue their studies, becoming more proficient on their instruments and learning more challenging music.  Concert band students perform in two major concerts each year, plus additional field trips to play other venues.

Chorus is designed to help students explore their vocal talents. Beginning students learn to read music, how their voice works, and how to sing  in unison and harmony.  They perform in two concerts per year.  No prior experience is necessary.  Concert Choir is our premier vocal group for 7th– and 8th grad students.  It allows students to further explore different styles of musical expression, and continue to work on correct vocal technique and performance.   Concert Choir students perform in two major concerts per year, along with  District MPA competition, Sounds of the Season (a District televised production), singing the National Anthem at Miracles baseball games, and other performance opportunities.  Students must have  previous choral experience or audition with the director.

Students concentrating in Dance will complete course of study in Ballet, Lyrical, Jazz, Swing, and other recognized styles of dance.  The program places strong emphasis upon artistic quality, studying of the elements of dance, implementation of development of dance skills, vocabulary development, choreography, and for each student to grow an appreciation of dance as an art form.  It is the goal of the dance department to provide a wide range of quality opportunities and experiences that will allow them to prepare for advanced study and enjoyment of dance as an art form.

In Keyboarding, students will develop fundamental piano techniques, learn to read music, apply basic music theory, and explore the role of keyboard music in history and culture. No prior experience is necessary.

In Orchestra, students with little or no prior experience develop fundamental techniques for string instruments.  They  showcase their talent in two concerts a year.

The word Theater 

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of Theatre and focus in imagination, pantomime, voice, movement, and acting.  They explore effective speaking skills using articulation, projection, and breathing.  They also practice writing for theatre and explore various theatre roles and functions.  As they further develop their dramatic skills, students also learn technical aspects of theatre including lights, sound, costume, set, makeup, and stage management.  Advanced theatre students work in independent pieces as well as scene work. These students work together to put on a main stage production at the end of the year.  The entire production is lead by the students, not only as actors, but they create the costume pieces, operate the sound board, and run the light board during the entire show.
